HARRY WON AND DREAM CAME FOURTH!!
The first to go was Dream - there were fourteen in her race. Peter rode to instructions and hunted her round the first circuit, going around the outside so that she could see each fence, she jumped beautifully and gradually jumped herself up with the leading group. Pete just missed out on coming third, but she was only seven lengths from the winner. We were over the moon with her as the wind op seems to have worked - she didn't make a noise at all and she is now a racehorse, not just my hunter!
Then it was Harry's turn, eleven very good horses in the race - because Rowan had schooled Harry during the week, Peter had phoned him and sought his advise as to the best way of getting him around. Rowan told him to be patient and not to start racing until after the last fence, he thought that Harry had a big enough engine to get to the front on the run in but if he started racing before that he would be more likely to fall - Peter did exactly as instructed, although we had some heart stopping moments, with Harry making a couple of howling mistakes and Peter doing very well to stay on, he waited until the last and then kicked on, as it was such a short distance from the last fence to the line, it was rather a risk, but one that paid off and Harry won by a length drawing away. Amazing as at one stage he was last of eleven and we thought he didn't stand a chance of getting to the front.
Needless to say there was rather a lot of celebrating in the car park afterwards, everyone was delighted for us, and it was a massive relief to have both horses back, safe and sound.
The celebrations continued into the night as we went to supper at David and Di's. Feeling somewhat jaded this morning to say the least!
Jay was chief photographer and took some lovely photo's - she is lambing at her Dad's at the moment but is coming back this evening when she will download them for me,
We have entered Dove for Ashorne tomorrow and are going to walk the course this afternoon to see what the going is like.
