On Friday we went to the point to point lunch and awards ceremony at Stratford - there were about 400 people there and Mick Fitzgerald gave the after dinner speech. He was really good with a very dry sense of humour. Sadly we couldn't stay to watch the racing in the evening because we had already committed ourselves to the Bicester hunt picnic ball without realising it was on the same night - however, I'm glad we didn't miss it as it was brilliant fun - we got back when Fred (the cockerel) was just beginning to crow.
Yesterday (Sunday) Doug and I took Dream and Dove out - we were going to go for a hack, but as soon as we went on a different track to the one that Dove is used to she started whipping around and fly leaping into the air, very nearly unseating Doug. We returned to the normal track that takes us to the gallops and she was then absolutely fine, so we went up the gallops twice which she loved. She is a very strange horse. Last year she wouldn't go up the gallops at all and the only way I could get her fit was by riding her around the farm, now it's the complete opposite. Dream went exceptionally well, the best she has been, and Red also went up the gallops with Doug and he was really pleased with her.
This morning Lucy came in and we all went up together, just twice again but with a bit of pace. All very good. I have entered all three for the Grafton point to point on Saturday and also entered Dove and Red under rules at Worcester the following day. I will be whittling all week now trying to make up my mind where they should go as there are a lot of entries for both options. Whichever I choose it's bound to be wrong!
Doug is working today so I feel at a bit of a loose end as I hadn't previously organised anything. I would like to go for a long walk with the dogs but Jack is getting very slow now and struggles to keep up - his river accident has taken a lot out of him and he is really showing his age now. Poor old boy.
