Christmas day was absolutely stunning. The sun shone and the snow sparkled. The air was crisp and clean. It was one of those very special days. Mum, Dad, brother Peter, sister Rose and brother in law Trevor came for lunch. Jay wasn't with us this year as she is seeing her Dad in New Zealand but she rang first thing and it was lovely to hear from her. She was very envious of our white Christmas. The boys were both with their respective fiances/wife's. Lunch went really well - because Dad isn't too keen on turkey (but I am!) we had beef, turkey and ham - we are still eating the left-overs now! We finished the first course in time for watching the Queens Speech and then we went for a walk before eating Christmas pudding and then opening pressies. A very traditional but most enjoyable day.
Joseph and Sophie came over for supper on Boxing Day (turkey curry). They are very excited about their forthcoming wedding which is the day after William and Kate's - (April 30th and it's my birthday!) should be a great week-end. I must remember not to wear the same dress to both...
Last night we were at David and Di's to eat their left-overs, (VERY nice) and we had also been to a drinks party at lunchtime where left-overs seemed to be the order of the day too. Guess what we are about to have for supper?
This morning the snow had started to thaw and everyone was in to ride the horses. The gallops were just about rideable but we had to go very slowly as there were still lumps of ice mixed up with the all-weather surface. Conditions are still not suitable for Laverty and Aitch as having got the heat out of the legs we don't want to risk them on dodgy ground so they both went on the walker for over an hour.
Harry is entered for Hereford on the 3rd but he didn't work terribly well this morning so we will have to see how he is. Red is entered for Cottenham on the 2nd, but it needs to be good ground as she doesn't quite stay three miles and can't go on the soft. Jake could go to Chaddesley Corbett on the 3rd if Harry doesn't run and he needs soft.
