Jake came 2nd! Jake ran a seriously good race in a really hot restricted, 12 other runners, seven of which had won their last race. the ground was a little too quick for him and he slowed right down as he went passed the horseboxes to say 'hello' to his travelling companion, Harry, but despite this he came a very creditable second to a classy horse, who won his last race with his head on his chest. Doug was over the moon with him as he really seems to be enjoying himself now and he jumped brilliantly. It was a great days racing with probably the best turn out ever, a really good atmosphere and lots of runners. It has been unseasonably hot these past few days and it has been a massive task trying to keep the track watered to maintain good ground and the Pytchley team did a really good job. We had a visit from PC Plod this evening. He thought it was hilarious that the gypsies had called them after their little visit here - he said to Doug, "your dogs have got quite a bark, but that's nothing compared to your wife's!" he was really pleased though as they can trace back through the mobile phone number all their details which could come in very useful. I had a big day in the office after riding one lot with Fran and Lucy and then went to see Doug in the evening after I did the post. He is fencing on the side of the uphill gallop. I ran up it again and it doesn't get any easier. I can see now why Dove sometimes declines to oblige - very sensible if you ask me.
