I'm not sure where to start - We have just got back from Guilsborough where we had a wonderful double with both Dr K and Popaway. Dr K gave us a bit of a scare as he let the second favourite, and a horse that had won three on the bounce get rather a long way in front and didn't look as though he would catch him, but then did the normal Dr K thing and overtook the leader two fences from home with a wet sail and put him nicely to bed. Popaway jumped her way to the front under restraint but then when allowed a couple of inches of rein just cruised to a comfortable win and Eeyore pulled up after the open ditch having made a tired mistake, second time around having jumped really well but still a little short of work because of his pulled muscle in his back. We were absolutely delighted but most of all the overwhelming one was one of relief as they were all back safe and sound - This was particularly so because of the horribly stressful day we had yesterday....
Whilst we were at the wedding we had the most awful phone call from Peter Mann (the jockey) that Definite Dawn had pulled up suddenly four fences from home and was been attended to by the horse ambulance. It looked very serious as he was holding a leg and couldn't put any weight on it. We assumed the worst and I felt physically sick that a beautiful horse like DD was almost certainly going to be put down and that I couldn't say my goodbyes. Needless to say the wedding was rather difficult to enjoy as I'm not very good at putting a brave face on, but to cut a long story short the horse was eventually driven to Newmarket Equine Hospital where they did an X ray and found that he had fractured his cannon bone. The good news, was though that it could be plated and that he could make a full recovery. I cannot tell you how relieved I was to hear that and we were then able to kick on and enjoy the wedding......
We are now going to celebrate Popaway and Jake's win and more importantly DD's successful operation.
