Fantastic to be pointing again and oh my goodness what competitive racing. There were a lot of runners and some seriously high class horses. We stayed the night in Tiverton and after a hearty breakfast we were at Black Forset Lodge in good time to walk the course before the first race. It was beautiful day and everyone was so friendly. The Hutby's had four runners and it seemed as though most of the Warickshire lot were there to support them so the picnics were immense. They did really well with two seconds and a third so Fred has obviously got them about right. It was the first time we have been to that track and won't be the last as it was a great experience.
However, this morning we had a horrible telephone call from Lucy to say that Chubby (the half sister to Dr Kingsley who had only just arrived) had tried to jump out of her stable and was stuck wedged on her back in the narrow passage. She couldn't move her and Lucy was sure she had broken something as she looked as though she had been there most of the night. I made a few quick phone calls and Cookie, Gordon and Dickie rushed to her aide and after removing the back stable door managed to pull her around so that she could get a purchase with her hind legs. She scrambled to her feet and apart from a nasty cut and a swollen eye was surprisingly well. The vet then arrived and gave her something for the shock and some antibiotics and did what she could with the cut. I cannot tell you how relieved we were when we got the call to say that she was on her feet and nothing was broken. Phew! She has already shown us that she has got a lovely attitude and lots of ability so it would have been tragic if the damage had been irreparable.
