The last two mornings have seen us slipping and sliding across the treacherously icy ground  to the hill gallop where thankfully it had been harrowed and we could do a bit of work with the horses. It is interesting how the heart rates of all the horses are on average 10 beats per minute higher in the freezing conditions than when it is mild. I'm not sure whether it is because they are nervous about walking on icy ground or whether the cold air takes more out of them. It doesn't seem to affect their maximum heart rate but the average and recovery rate is much higher so we don't do as much with them during the cold snap.
We are really hoping that racing is on this weekend as Budge and Cloud are champing on the bit for their run at Cottenham on Saturday and Rock, Jake and Harry are spot on for Sunday at Brocklesby.
We hadn't been to the cinema for the last two years and now in the last week we have been twice. On Thursday we saw The Theory of Everything which is a true story about Stephen Hawking and his battle with motor neurone disease and last night we saw The American Sniper. Both films hugely moving in different ways and well worth seeing.
