THANK GOODNESS. The season is over with all horses finishing safe and sound. Yesterday we didn't run Noddy as he is only five and the ground had turned to firm and Elvis and Rock both did clear rounds in extremely competitive fields with 14 and 16 runners in both races. An amazing days racing for the end of the season and as usual we were one of the last to leave, enjoying the picnic, sunshine and company and just so relieved that we haven't had any casualties. Holly won another best turned out with Elvis with her total tally being a whopping 27. A great result especially considering we had so many cancelled meetings due to the waterlogged ground. Our season was mixed with not as many winners as last year but we had the win we most wanted - Popaway winning at Cheltenham and also the fabulous second with both Exclusive Rights and Popaway at Stratford. Both fabulous occasions that really made our year.
We were particularly pleased with our young horses, Velvet Steel, Brave Bella and Premier Gold who all ran with extreme promise and have now been put away for them to grow on and be very exciting prospects for next year.
We have a few on the breathing operation list, these being Lady Barfad, Sea Rock and Velvet Cloud. Don't Budge me was scoped and found to have very bad ulcers which will be treated when he comes back in next season after 'Doctor Green' has began the healing process. Glory Hunter had a slight tendon injury at the beginning of the season and will be ready to run in November as did Out of Range who hopefully will be back soon after undergoing rehab with his owner, Emma Hawthorne. We Never Give Up, after her very promising run at Cheltenham got kicked in the field and had to have some time off, just when the ground would have suited her but will also run before Christmas. We have a lot to look forward to next season but now I can start catching up on the other things that have been slightly neglected like housework (yuck), gardening and trying to earn a living rather than play with ponies!
