We had a great run home yesterday from Cornwall with no hold ups. The snow when we arrived was pretty impressive and then it was -5 during the night so it wasn't safe to ride out. We were hoping to canter around the big grass field but it was too frozen and ice balls in their feet would have been a problem, Also, when it is as cold as this the horses don't drink as much water, so if you work them you have to be really careful they drink enough as if they don't it can cause all sorts of other problems.
Instead they were all turned out with three rugs on each and had a thoroughly nice time playing in the snow. It should thaw a bit tonight so we should be back riding them then.
