Not much luck at the races but all safe and sound. So much for my fears that it would be too firm - Luke did a wonderful job of watering but then the heavens opened last night which made the watered areas rather too soft and very sticky with tired finishing horses. We didn't run Jess and very nearly pulled Budge out as we knew the ground wouldn't suit, which it didn't but he ran well for a circuit and a half. Jim did another lovely clear round but failed to get competitive in the latter stages, having been up with them for a circuit. He doesn't seem to stay three miles. Will rode him really well and couldn't have done anymore but finished last of the five runners. It is only his third race and he has learnt so much. Jim has been great for him but it would be lovely for him to have a horse who can stay the full distance and reward him for all his hard work.
It was a packed day at the races and everyone had fun. Holly won best turned out with Jim putting her total to 28 - Her record was 29 last season so it looks as though that will be beaten.
Billy Aprahamian had an outside ride on a 'no hoper' which beat the favourite and we have just heard that Charlie Case (Ben and Sarah's son)) had his first winner today at Kimble after only six rides. Well done Charlie!
