Frog schooling
Peter Mann, Will Telfor and Matt schooled the horses yesterday. Not altogether successfully as Red made a complete horlicks of the second big fence and Will nearly fell off and then when he put Frog up the hurdles for her first time she ran out at the second flight and jumped the wings - which were a lot higher than the fence anyway, second time up she ran out at the third flight and then third time up with a few slaps on her shoulder she jumped perfectly. She really is a French Madame though and loves to try it on. Dream was OK but doesn't tuck up terribly well and drags her back feet in the brush although Matt gave her a good ride. and Dove was brilliant. Peter Mann rode her and his laid back relaxed manner seemed to suit her and they got on well.
Today Tom Ellis came to ride out. We wanted to see how he got on with Dove and sadly not very well. She planted second time up the gallops, she went eventually but she obviously can't afford to do that in a race. We feel as though we are back to square one now with her. We were going to take her to Brocklesby but it's a long way to go for a refusal. Tom said he hadn't sat on a horse as good as her and was really impressed - not much good if she won't start though. Polly Nicholls brought her horse to try with a heart monitor on. She wanted to see if it was fit enough as it has pulled up in his last two races. The HM showed that it was fit enough, with a very good recovery rate, so the conclusion is that it may not stay three miles, or may be slightly tying up.
Because of Frogs run out yesterday we set up a hurdle in the school with wings and Georgia took her over the hurdle a few times. She went really well and didn't think about running out so I think we are now over that problem. Dream also had a pop with the poles set at an angle on the fence to try and get her to snap up in front. She was much better, although in typical Dream fashion she would do one amazing jump and then lose concentration and do a sloppy one.
