We had a good turn out of work riders this morning - Amy, who is back from her sailing trip, Charlotte and Francesca (who used to work ride for Paul Webber). Lucy is away in Northumberland but will be back on Monday. We went in two lots of five with the first group (Leon, Doris, Frog, Dove and Red) all doing trotting work where we go across the fields right over the top of the gallops. It's a really good work out for them and they seem to enjoy it. This morning though Dove was in season and was a right madam, unless she was in front she had a tantrum and refused to go anywhere except around in circles - this set Frog off, and even Leon got a bit stirred up which actually makes a nice change. They all settled eventually with us having to keep Frog and Dove well apart - two hormonal females, Doug is surrounded by them at the moment...He loves it really!
The next lot was Aitch (Haunted House), Jake, Dream, Harry and Skye, we took them three times around the round gallop. It was the first time that I had cantered Aitch and he felt superb. He is a real athlete and just covers the ground effortlessly. If we can keep him sound I think he is going to be a lot of fun this season. His confidence is growing all the time.
Tonight David Allen is having a party in the local to celebrate his horse winning at Cheltenham, so better get ready...
