Jake did brilliantly and came third in a very hot race - he was right out the back for the first circuit and then as the others got tired started to pick them off. He was a little hesitant with his jumping first time around and then once he knew the fences, the second time around he really had a cut at them. He is a bit of a wimp and seems to run much better on a track where he has already had a run and knows the fences. He also travelled really well - we took Harry with him to keep him company and as Harry is so laid back it really helped. Very pleasing as it was a big step up and he wasn't really asked any questions in his maiden.
This morning we took Harry and Leon around the big grass field for a slow canter. We have entered Leon for Huntingdon on Thursday and Warwick on Friday and we will spend the rest of the week whittling about which one to declare him for - they are both 0-105 hurdle races over two miles - although Warwick is a hands and heels race, which is quite appealing as I don't want him hit with a whip -he has had enough of that in the past and needs to be sweetened up. It will also depend on the going as Warwick can get quite heavy which he wouldn't really want. He went well enough this morning although I think he is the sort of horse who is rather lazy and doesn't show much at home.
After riding we were mucking out the stables when we got a visit from Victoria and Jo Thame - great excuse for a coffee in the Shepherds hut which then turned into a glass or two of wine, as it does. As I hadn't put any lunch on we went to the local for a late Sunday lunch on the quad. After which I went for a long walk with the dogs before it got dark. Its just wonderful to see signs of Spring - everywhere is just about to burst into life and there is a wonderful carpet of snowdrops in the nearby woods.
