Leon got home safely. He hated the ground, which was much softer than we had hoped it would be, and lost a shoe on the second bend which being a soft flat horse with corns, stopped him in his tracks, however, he jumped really well and thoroughly seemed to enjoy the experience. Will was told just before the race by Tony McCoy, who rode him last season when he was with Paul Nicholls (and was well beaten) that he had a wind problem, so we were somewhat concerned in the soft that he wouldn't get round, we were so pleased when Will reported back that his wind seemed fine. All he needs now is some better ground , a drop in the handicap so that he is in a 0-100 race and we could have some fun with him. His owners were delighted and loved the experience of being at the races and very thankful that we are taking our time with him. We have only just got him straight with all his various problems and enjoying the job so now we can concentrate on getting him super fit. It was a beautiful Spring day and everyone at Huntingdon was so friendly, a very pleasant experience - would have been better if he had won but never mind!
We are back to being wet and miserable today so after working the horses this morning I was rather pleased to have an excuse to catch up on the office work.
Jay is coming back from university tonight so I'm just off to get the horses in and then pick her up from the station.
