Last night our village had a bonfire along the proposed route of the High Speed Railway along with at least 40 other bonfires between London and Birmingham. The proposal will cost the tax payer in the region of 17 billion pounds and will cut the travel time by 2o minutes!
If it gets the go ahead work will start in 2015 and will cut though some of the most beautiful countryside. and historic picturesque villages It will also go straight through the fields where the Battle of Edgecote took place in 1469 where thousands of soldiers lost their lives. It seems ironic that up until now it has been a sacred sire where even metal detecting isn't allowed but now on some whim it could be completely evacuated and given over to acres of concrete and railway lines. That's progress for you...
Horses worked well enough this morning except having entered Oaka for this Saturday he came in hopping lame last night - Thankfully it isn't too serious and we have tubbed him in hot water and poulticed him and the infection has come out around his heel - he must have stood on a stone yesterday. Hopefully he will be back in work tomorrow.
The weather is still somewhat miserable and very wet underfoot. We can't use the grass gallops at the moment as it is too soft. Spring seems a long way away at the moment.
