Carnarvon Gorge

Thursday/Friday 21st/22nd July
After a lovely two days spent with Doug's parents we set off early in the morning for Carnarvon Gorge - Doug's parents very kindly lent us their Toyota Hilux for the 800 km journey. We arrived there after nine hours of driving just as it was getting dark and settled into our little cottage in the middle of the forest.
The next day we walked for miles and saw the sights, the scenery was spectacular and the aboriginal art was supposed to be the best preserved in Australia.
Everyone was very friendly and mostly country folk - it is astonishing how many older Australians think nothing of driving hundreds of miles in their camper vans - they are called 'The Grey Nomads' and they really seem to be enjoying their retirement.

In the evenings we sat around the fire pit and put the world to rights - it was a great break and we really enjoyed it.
