Jess won!! We took her and Cyril to Godstone on Saturday - the going was plenty fast enough but the organisers had done a great job with aerating the ground the night before, and because it was such light land it completely took the jar out of it. Although it wasn't the hottest race it was very competitive, and what was really pleasing was the way she quickened away from the field when asked and won so easily, we always thought she hadn't much pace but she showed a real turn of foot which was very exciting. - she could have gone around again and hardly blew. Toby was over the moon and said that it was the spin of his life and the owners 'The Never Give up' club - were absolutely delighted. Gordon, the syndicate leader had picked the race for her and was spot on with his choice.
Cyril also managed a reluctant third and Toby did very well to coax him around - It was really a 'tuning up' exercise for Christopher who will be riding him again on the 14th at his local meeting, and doesn't really want Cyril to make a fool of him again....
Today we took Red and Skye to the Grafton hunter trials, Jo Spencer has been 're-training' them, and teaching them not to be racehorses anymore - she has obviously done an amazing job, because they both looked like proper little event horses in the making and jumped the different obstacles really well - Skye wasn't too keen on the water complex, and Red looked at the coffin, but apart from that they were little super stars. They are supposed to be for sale - I hate selling horses.....
Dove still hasn't foaled - the belligerent trout, She never conforms. However, she is looking very close, so it could be tonight. I haven't had a good nights sleep now since the 18th (her due date), and will be very pleased and relieved when it is born safely.
