Jake won!!! AND made very hard work of it as he only did exactly what he needed to do and no more, he definitely had us worried at one time as he was fourth out of four and seemed to be going backwards, but then in true Jake style he eventually deigned to pick up the bridle and won going away.
He was just the same last year when he made hard work of beating Boddington Lad in the Members, but then he ran at Paxford in a much hotter race and won easily hard on the bridle. He is a nightmare for bookmakers and punters alike, and not good for our blood pressure!
Popaway ran a cracking race and came a very close third just finding the trip and the ground a little on the testing side. We know she has speed, strength and a huge jump in her and will be a different horse on better ground.
