It was a little overcast this morning so we drove to Lafkos which is an ancient and picturesque village on top of a mountain.
Lafkos

We decided that we were going to do the walk to Milina, albeit rather reluctantly on Doug's behalf who quite seriously said that it would be "easier to drive..".(!?).   To be fair it was rather a trek, and followed an old cobbled donkey trail very steeply down the mountainside, eventually ending up at Milina, a pretty seaside village with plenty of little beaches and more importantly some tavernas. We had a coffee and then walked around the harbour chatting to some English sailors who were tending to their boats. We spoke to one who had sailed his boat from Plymouth, his wife didn't like the idea so he set off on his own with very limited sailing experience, not even bring able to swim, and here he was moored up in an idyllic Greek village six months later having a wonderful time. Although I have to say he kept on scratching his head and looked a bit feral!
When we have finished training horses it is a bit of a pipe dream we have to buy a sailing boat and
take off for a few months so it was interesting to talk to a few of them and find out their experiences.
A swim, lunch , another swim and then the trek back up the mountain where, yes it would have been "easier to drive" but we saw a huge wild boar amongst the olive groves, a herdsman tending his goats, scrumped some delicious bunches of grapes, looked down on the most amazing view and burnt some calories, none of which would have been possible from the comfort of the car.
Delicious grapes - great for scrumping
Now having a gin and tonic on the balcony and trying very hard not to lose it with those ridiculously loud foreign neighbours..... Don't mention the war....
