Thank goodness. We have finished the season with all horses safe and sound.Apart from Val D'Auberge who is slightly lame but will be able to do another job. A huge relief all round. It was great racing today and we were over the moon with The King of  Angels who took Peter Bennett round to come a very impressive third in a really hot race. He is such is such a genuine horse and perfect for Peter. Jess was disappointing but could be excused as she was going really well but seemed to lose her action and dropped back. Peter pulled her up just before the last when she was in fourth place and she was lame but thankfully because she had lost a shoe and then later on coughed up a lot of mucus and blood again, so she is clearly still not right, bless her.
There was a stewards enquiry after her race which involved the winner and a very well known trainer (who will remain nameless) as there was a bit of skulduggery with the weight cloth and it was spotted by an eagle eyed clerk of the scales. It was like something out of a Dick Francis novel and has been referred to Portman Square. Rather sad that something like that should happen in an amateur sport though and you wonder how long it has been going on,
However, our last picnic by the lorry was as good as ever and we were the last to leave. We then went to join 'Team Morgan ' for their end of season party. They live quite close to the race track and they had very kindly prepared a couple of stables for us so we could unload Jess and Elvis, give them their supper and let them relax whilst we joined the party. A great one it was too...One of the best things about this sport is the people and the wonderful characters who will be very much missed until the season starts again. Nearly home now and so happy with the wonderful season we have had. Thirteen winners and twenty seven best turned out and most importantly all the horses will be.in the field grazing grass enjoying their summer break as from tomorrow
