All four horses went out today - Dove and Red first lot, Georgia rode Dove and I was on Red, it was the first time I had ridden Red since her race and I was really pleased with how well she felt. Not at all stiff. Whereas, we have heard on the grapevine that both the first and the second horses home in her race won't race again this season. It was a very hard and fast race. Dove was still a bit naughty and nearly planted on the gallops but luckily I had got Georgia to wear dummy spurs and a little jab with those and she went up. They both worked very well.
Dream and Frog went for a walk around the farm and back through the village. Dream is sound at the walk but lame at the trot and Frog is waiting for a new pair of back shoes and is a little foot-sore - My farrier (Doug) is a little busy at the moment. You just can't get the staff these days...
I have spoken to Roy about Dream and he can fit her in tomorrow, so I have got to box her to Mark Rimmels (about 2 hours away) where Roy will be working on other horses. He thinks he knows what it is and that it should only take ten minutes to put right, fingers crossed.
It has been another beautiful day. This is our first spring at Blackgrounds Farm and everyday we pinch ourselves as we cannot believe how lovely it is here and how lucky we are to have found such a piece of heaven. A pair of swallows came swooping into the yard this afternoon. I was ridiculously pleased to see them as that was the only thing I missed from Westlands where we used to get the same pair returning from Africa every April and I was wondering whether they had made it or not.
Doug has had a big day today and isn't home yet - I better get supper on. What a good wifey I am!
