Geoffrey and sister Poppy

We had more snow last night which made conditions perfect for working the horses. Lucy was in after having the last week off ski-ing. We did two lots of three horses. Frog, Harry and Dream, followed by Red, Jake and Dove. Ben wasn't able to come in again because of the snow so I texted him to ask if he minded Lucy riding Jake as he hadn't been worked for some time. We had tried letting him out in the menage but he is so fresh he kicked out and broke the fence. Ben didn't get back so Lucy rode him anyway. We did 30 mins of good trotting in the powder and they all worked really well. After we had got back Ben then texted to say that he wanted Jake to have (another) day off. Oh dear, too late. I thought he would be delighted that his horse was getting some work instead of standing about in his stable but not so. At this rate Jake is never going to be fit enough to run - he is a big horse who needs heaps of work and he is just not getting it. It is very frustrating not having full control over his training and in the future it is not an arrangement that I want to be part of. Either I train the horse properly or not at all as it is my reputation that is at stake. I have never sent an unfit horse to the races before and I don't intend to start now.
We had a lovely evening with Sophie and Joseph last night. They had a great time ski-ing and were very pleased to see their Geoffrey again. Poppy was sorry to see him go as they are great mates and don't stop playing together.
