Roses in full bloom
It's so lovely to see the roses back as I was rather worried earlier in the season when it looked as though part of the rose bush had died. It must have been planted years and years ago and I would hate it if it died whilst in my care. I have been diligently watering and feeding it and it seems to have recovered.
Yesterday I picked Jay up from university. It is the other side of London, and while the journey down wasn't too bad, the journey back was horrendous. A friend called 'Joules' (?) also came back with her. He is from Belgium and is taking a few days to explore the UK before going back home. He seems a really nice chap and easy to have around. It's so different nowadays whereby it is normal to have a platonic relationship with someone of the opposite sex without automatically being assumed to be 'going out' . When I was young (just after the war) it just didn't happen - normally because everyone went to a single sex school and being with someone of the opposite sex was a really big deal. It seems so much healthier now, which should lead to more stable relationships in the future - hmm, one can only hope.
It was our wedding anniversary yesterday and we were hoping to go out for a romantic meal but as I didn't get back until late we just had supper with Jay and Joules. Very nice it was too.
Today has been spent catching up with odd jobs. Jay's friend Selina is also here now - they are hoping to do a sponsored cycle ride from Northampton to Edinburgh and are planning their route. I'm somewhat concerned as neither, in particular Selina, have done much cycling, Jay suggested that Selena should cycle over here but she didn't want to because she 'doesn't like cycling on her own' - and up until now has never cycled on a road before (she has an exercise bike!!) The problem being she has already received quite a considerable amount of sponsorship and really has to do it. They are supposed to be going in the last week of July. It is good motivation for Selena though as she has been quite ill and needs something to get her going again. Tragically her mother committed suicide three years ago and understandably it has deeply affected her both emotionally and physically.
We are out tonight for supper with friends so 'tootle pip' must get on..
