We went to supper at the Thames last night and feeling somewhat jaded now - Doug was on jury service yesterday - we have been trying to think of all sorts of excuses for him to get out of it but apparently they are really strict and no excuse (apart from being in a coma) will do.
He waited about all day and then the case collapsed so he wasn't needed. He is 'on call' now for the next two weeks - if you employ someone and they are called up for jury service you have to give them full pay, so for an employed person it is a great holiday, but for a self employed person it's a disaster, the courts pay £30 a day in expenses which is laughable, just parking in Oxford costs £20 a day, and some cases can last up to six weeks. Anyway, hopefully he wont have to go in again.
