We didn't go to Larkhill today as thought we would take the chance to catch up on a few jobs at home. Looking at the results it looks as though there was some high class horses there and very good racing with Poquelin, rated 170 and Gwanako who was rated 155 when under rules. Needless to say they both won their respective races.
We walked Cockleburrow yesterday. An enormous amount of work has gone into this new course and it looked tremendous with beautifully made fences. However, and I am probably going to upset a few people here, but it has to be said - The ground was literally full of rocks and the official going even after all that rain could be no better than good to firm with hard patches. Going around with a stick it was quite shocking how little soil there was and just hard rock underneath. It makes Whitfield look like a grade one track. On either side of the track there were fields which were just littered with rocks to the point where you couldn't see the grass underneath, so they have done really well clearing the amount of stones that they have cleared but to even think of putting a track on such ground beggars belief. Such a shame as everything else about the course was fantastic and I guess if you have a horse who likes hard ground then it would be fine. Needless to say we won't be running any horses there and will be going to Ampton instead.
