Popaway won hard on the bridle in the fastest race of the day! That managed to calm my nerves a little as I had got myself really stressed out about racing today and hardly slept a wink last night, I think it was mainly down to the fact that we were running two maidens, Goody ( Lady Barfad) and Eeyore (Wild Dove) who I think the world of and although they had both schooled really well at home, statistically their first few runs is when you get the most accidents. Anyway, I needn't have worried as Eeyore did everything we wanted him to do, he was up with the pace until three from home when the leading group kicked on and as the instructions were to give him a nice first time ride, that is exactly what Peter did and hacked him nicely home with his ears pricked. It is so nice to get the first race out the way, and know that next time we have got something to go to war with. Goody, who had two prep runs last season, was a real surprise package, she went the longest way around so that she got a good view of her fences and then came with a strong run at the end coming a very good fourth. We were absolutely delighted with both of them and I really shouldn't have got so stressed! Dancer was a little disappointing and pulled up having made a horrendous mistake four from home, but she never normally comes good until April. A brilliant day and such a relief to have them all back safely.
