Yippee! Elvis (King of Angels) won and Dug (Val D'Auberge) came second. Elvis was in a hot race and was the outsider but he made it look very easy and lengthened his stride beautifully when Peter Mann asked and won going away. Peter had dropped his whip after the last so it was hands and heels all the way to the line. Just wonderful for the owner, Peter Bennett, who had set him up nicely for the race after giving him a lovely outing at Guilsborough and was good enough to let Peter Mann ride him this time. The ground wasa little on the quick side for Dug, but he still ran a very good race.
Tic was an absolute nightmare in the lorry, to the point where I was convinced she would break a leg the way she was kicking and thrashing about. She then very nearly bucked Will off going to the start, but then they both settled in nicely and she finished the race in sixth place with Will struggling to pull her up at the end as she wanted to go around again. It was a great introductory experience for her and with twenty runners it would have made a good amount for charity. A really good idea.
We are nearly home now and Tic has been as good as gold. A very successful day out for everyone.
